Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment (mind, body and spirit are taken into account) involving the use of essential oils extracted from plants to improve physical and emotional well being. The properties of the aromatherapy massage oils combined with therapeutic massage have a profoundly soothing effect on the mind and body. It is not a new concept; its roots can be traced back to the early Egyptian people 5,000 years ago.
Today the use of essential oils is becoming increasingly popular as people realise the benefits the oils have in helping to de-stress the mind and body.
Stress means different things to different people but generally it is a state we experience when there are demands placed on us and we do not feel we have the ability to cope with them. When stress becomes excessive it affects every system of the body as well as the mind. Stress is a contributory factor to almost every serious illness. The more stressed we are the more likely we will suffer from both physical and mental problems, which include:
- Anxiety • Headaches • Depression • Insomnia • Nervous breakdown
- Indigestion/heartburn • Gastritis • Irritable bowel syndrome
- Heart attack • High blood pressure
- Menstrual problems • Impotence
- Colds and flu • Eczema
There are a variety of ways in which essential oils can be used: inhalation, bath, compress, massage.
Aromatherapy can help:
- To fight stress
- To boost immunity
- To improve digestion
- To improve circulation
- To improve mobility
- To improve condition of the skin.
Before your treatment an in depth consultation will be carried out. This will help to choose the oils needed to meet your expectation. You can choose a treatment for relaxation, to help with PMS (premenstrual syndrome), to improve digestion or any other condition. A course of 5-6 treatments is recommended. Please note: As a beauty therapist I do not attempt to diagnose any condition. My suggestions for a treatment and/or product will be based on information given during the consultation, will be aimed to meet your expectations and only if there is not any medical condition that may prevent your treatment. Conditions that may prevent your treatment will be discussed before your appointment and during the consultation.
